Is it time to expand musically?
I am a guitarist and have been playing gospel music for a while. i have grown, and learned alot of things doing it, but i feel like it is time for me to expand, because i feel stuck in a box. What can i do to expand?
Why don’t you try Classical Music and Jazz? Since you’ve been learning a lot of diff. things. I think Classical Music & Jazz are very Challenging especially Classical Music. I’ve been Classically trained on Piano & have also studied music in college which was a college who’s main FOCUS was teaching thru the Classical Music. For example, I’ve played a lot of Bach & even though sight reading & playing this melodies are simple, but it’s trying to understand what he was trying to Express in his melodies is the Challenging part. There is so many things you can learn from Classical Music. Another way of getting “out of the rut” is trying to combine 2 diff. styles of music since you’ve been learning a lot. Like World Fusion which is World Music combined w/ Jazz. Example: I love Classical Indian Music & I’ve seen & heard a lot of Tabla Music w/ Jazz Elements.
Don’t be afraid to step back & let whatever Creativity you have out. Keep an Open Mind & Just Explore & see what else is out there. Go to I-Tunes & just randomly listen to other Music. It IS Inside of you!
