All Year Round Orlando
If you are planning a trip to Orlando then why not take a look at what’s happening throughout the year and plan your trip accordingly.
A New Year’s Day classic in Orlando is the Annual Capital One Bowl, a college football game played at the Citrus Bowl.
Another January favourite is the Zora Neale Hurston Festival, an African American extravaganza showcasing arts, music, dance and poetry. The festival takes place during the last week of January each year in Eatonville and throughout Orange County.
Classical music fans will be pleased by the Bach Festival which takes place in February, the month in which Mount Dora Arts Festival also takes place. Free to the public, Mount Dora is transformed into one giant art museum with over 300 artists, performers, temporary shops, and games to capture your attention.
February in Greater Orlando also heralds the Silver Spurs Rodeo, one of the largest rodeo competitions east of the Mississippi, thus attracting cowboys from far and wide.
Also held in the Silver Spurs Arena is the Kissimmee Blue Grass Festival which takes place in March. This four day event encompasses bluegrass and gospel music, arts and crafts, food and much more.
March is the month for Florida Film Festival, a filmic extravaganza held in and around the Enzian Theatre.
In April you can enjoy the two day Kissimmee JazzFest where the lakefront park showcases tunes from both professional and amateur jazz musicians, as well as art exhibitions and culinary delights.
Orlando Carnival, a Caribbean-style Mardi Gras, is a popular choice for May. For something out of the ordinary there is an orchid festival in June and Celebrity Mascot Games during the last weekend in July.
August is definitely the month of music as the Sounds of Summer Festival extends through the month and the Summer Music Games World Championships are held at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
In September the Mexican Fiesta, held at Lake Eola Park commemorates Mexican Independence Day. Tuck into some authentic dishes, listen to Mexican music and generally immerse yourself in all things Mexican.
Orlando Home Show and Osceola Art Festival also take place during September.
October is another busy month for activities with one of the highlights being the Halloween Horror Nights where Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure feature haunted houses, spooky shows and many more ghoulish goings on.
The National Basketball Association kicks off league games in November. Tickets tend to sell out fast so make sure you pre-book if you want to catch a glimpse of the action.
December is filled with all the festive delights you would expect. From winter parks to Christmas parades, there is something for all the family.
Whatever time of year you decide to visit, have a look at Orlando hotels before you leave. Having a scout around on the internet can save you time, money and hassle giving you more time to enjoy one of America’s most splendid cities.
